Lightday | Stormlight Archive RPG Actual Play Podcast | Knights of Desolation Ep. 8
Many Kings Candidates encountered Avolar-child-Avozin, Bondsmith of the Nightwatcher, immediately before tragedy. Deals were made, and second chances granted, though in each instance, a heavy price was paid.
Write-up
Lightday arrives on Roshar, marking the beginning of a new year — the single clear day centered between four weeks of constant weeping rain. The Weeping looms over several Stormlight tales, yet we rarely glimpse the celebration that should be the greatest universal holiday on Roshar. Two weeks of unbroken rainfall would make anyone a little stir-crazy, so every other year, when the rain finally stops, Sesemalex Dar explodes into a city of celebration and color. Vendors come from across the continent to hawk unique wares and take in the sights of the great Makabakan port. The well-protected bay draws a wonder all its own: rainbowspren gather every other Lightday for a celebration of their own, refracting light off the calm waters and the stone crest that cradles the city. And it is here, amid the color and revelry, that many Emuli couples gather to be wed.
What better way to ring in the new Light Year than with the grandest ceremony of all? As the party steps out into the bustling, festive streets in search of Lightday Deals — 100% off Selish instruments, for Luka at least — bigger matters still loom. Before the fun can commence, will the ever-cautious Nazir succeed on his lone wolf mission involving the powerful Union Boss? Will he gather useful information, acquire transport towards Alethela, or be played by the most powerful man in the city? Will a giant Thalathan merchant kidnap the Bondsmith of Honor because the child doesn't know his own native tongue? Pako's external fight may be over, but his hangover may prove a formidable foe come morning. And how many spheres can the party earn busking in a city already saturated with talented performers? Find out, this week on Knights of Desolation!
